The week of 23 to 27 May is packed with ministerial meetings of interest for the Council. These include, the meeting of the finance ministers of the euro area who will meet on Monday 23 for the Eurogroup, as well as the General Affairs Council and the European Economic Area Council which will also take place on Monday, while the Economic and Financial Council will be held the following day. As for the Parliament, MEPs will be carrying out constituency work, and committee meetings will start up from the following week (30 May-3 June). Of particular importance, on Monday, a delegation from the parliamentary committee responsible for the Internal Market (IMCO) will visit Silicon Valley.
Following are the main dossiers to be discussed during the week in the digital, energy and health fields.
DIGITAL
- Monday 23 May 2022: A delegation from the parliamentary committee responsible for the Internal Market (IMCO) will visit Silicon Valley where it will have the opportunity to meet the main players in the digital field (Google, Meta, Apple, AirBnb, Paypal, and eBay). The delegation will meet with local authorities, companies and academics to exchange views on matters related to the main digital dossiers currently under discussion in the IMCO committee.
OTHER APPOINTMENTS
- Monday 23 May 2022: The finance ministers of the euro area will meet in Brussels for the Eurogroup. The 54th European Economic Area Council and the General Affairs Council will also be held on the same day. On the agenda, the discussion of the draft conclusions to be adopted at the extraordinary meeting of the European Council on 30 and 31 May and the agenda of the European Council meeting on 23 and 24 June 2022.
- Tuesday 24 May 2022: The Economic and Financial Affairs Council will be held in Brussels. Ministers will discuss the impact of the sanctions imposed on Russia for the European economy and will seek agreement on the Council’s position on the revised regulation on long-term European investment funds (ELTIF).
