The European agenda from 19 to 23 September will include the following appointments. As the plenary session has just ended for the European Parliament, no meetings are scheduled for the parliamentary committees this week. Instead, the Council and the Czech Council Presidency will be busy. The General Affairs Council is scheduled to take place in Brussels, while Prague will host various events: from discussions on the topic of nuclear energy and space exploration to the meeting of the General Assembly of the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) and the Board of Regulators of the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER). Also in Prague, a meeting is planned between the Heads of Medicines Agencies who will discuss the European medicines regulatory system. In the European Commission, health will again be discussed at this week’s College meeting, Commissioner Mariya Gabriel will attend the Global Leadership Council and host the Portuguese Minister of Science and Technology, Elvira Fortunato, while Vice-President Margaritis Schinas will present a recommendation on cancer screening.
ENERGY
Tuesday 20 September 2022: The Czech Republic’s representation to the EU opens its doors for a discussion on ‘Nuclear Energy for Space Exploration. Strengthening the EU’s leadership position’. It will also be an opportunity to present a study carried out by the European Nuclear Society. Various representatives of research centres, associations and universities in the nuclear sector will participate, in order to discuss the contribution of nuclear energy to space exploration and encourage its development.
Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 September 2022: The meeting of the General Assembly of the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) and the Board of Regulators of the European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) will take place. Each state in turn hosts these meetings during its presidency, so this year it is the turn of the Czech Republic
Thursday 22 September: The Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel, will participate in the meeting of the Global Leadership Council, the programme launched in 2018 by the UN Secretary-General. It aims to find innovative solutions on a global scale regarding job opportunities, entrepreneurship and social impact. The theme of this meeting will be green – ‘Unlocking opportunities for a youth-led green transition.

Wednesday 21 September 2022: During the College, Commission Vice-President responsible for promoting the European Lifestyle, Margaritis Schinas, will present a recommendation on cancer prevention screening.
From Wednesday 21 to Friday 23 September: Heads of Medicines Agencies (HMA) will meet in Prague. The network brings together the bodies responsible at the EU level for the regulation of medicines for human and veterinary use. Medicines governance and the planning process, analysis of current legislation, exchange of information and sharing of best practices regarding the European regulatory system will be discussed.
OTHER APPOINTMENTS
Tuesday 20 September 2022: Ministers will discuss several items at the General Affairs Council meeting on Tuesday in Brussels. The discussion will be centred on the rule of law of the Union, the possible follow-up to the Conference on the Future of Europe, EU-UK relations, legislative planning and priorities of the Czech Presidency. Also on Tuesday, Commissioner Mariya Gabriel will receive the Portuguese Minister of Science and Technology, Elvira Fortunato, in Brussels.
