On Wednesday 11th of October, the Institute for Competitiveness (I-Com) has presented its new Study 2023 titled “EU’s competitiveness formula: ingredient list for digitalisation, sustainability and health ahead of 2024 elections”, which focuses on the state of the art and the impact of the EU initiatives on three pivotal sectors – digital, sustainability and health.
Chapter 1 deals with the upcoming digital scenarios, starting with the European policy strategy on web 4.0 and virtual worlds, also referred to as “metaverse(s)”. The design of this strategy is at a nascent stage considering the recent flourishing of immersive virtual worlds, also because many of the instruments enabling the access to them are still in the making.
Chapter 2 is devoted to the developments of sustainability and energy-related legislation. Specifically, it delves into the two faces of decarbonisation, namely energy efficiency and renewable technologies. It also sheds a light on the premises of the electricity market reform as well as its implications for energy operators and consumers.
Chapter 3 discusses the major issues the European healthcare systems, including policies related to industries, exports and trends. The chapter wants to highlight how the objective is to transform the Union’s industry into a catalyst for growth and a driver of change and innovation.
