The week’s agenda sees the European Parliament still engaged in the final hearings of the designated commissioners and a mini-plenary to be held in Brussels. Additionally, the Hungarian Presidency will organize the Conference on Legal Competitiveness.

Monday, November 11 and Tuesday, November 12. In Budapest, under the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council, the Conference on Legal Competitiveness will take place. The event aims to explore, with contributions from recognized industry experts, how legislative improvement, deregulation, and new technologies (LegalTech) can contribute to a stable and innovative legal framework within the EU.

Tuesday, November 12. Throughout the day, all Commission vice-presidents will be heard. In the morning, the hearing of Italian-designated Commissioner Raffaele Fitto, assigned the Portfolio for Cohesion and Reforms, will take place.

In the AFET committee, Kaja Kallas, the candidate for High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy as well as vice-president of the future Commission, will be heard.

In the early afternoon, Stéphane Séjourné, the candidate for Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, will be heard by the ITRE/IMCO/ENVI/ECON committees. The EMPL/CULT committees will question the candidate for Executive Vice-President for People, Skills, and Readiness, Roxana Mînzatu.

In the evening, the hearings of designated Vice-President Teresa Ribera Rodríguez, with the Portfolio for a Fair, Clean, and Competitive Transition, and Henna Virkkunen, designated Vice-President for Technological Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy, will close the hearing cycle.

Wednesday, November 13. In Brussels, a mini-plenary of the Parliament will take place, during which statements from the Commission and the European Council on EU-US relations in light of the results of the US presidential elections will be presented. In the same session, MEPs will deal with questions regarding the United Nations Conference on Climate Change.

Thursday, November 14. On the second day of the mini-plenary, a report on improving Europe’s civil and defense readiness and preparedness will be presented by Sauli Niinistö, former President of Finland. Following this, a vote will be held on the Regulation on Deforestation, EU actions against Russian shadow fleets, and ensuring the full implementation of sanctions against Russia.

Monday, November 11. In Baku, Azerbaijan, the COP29 is scheduled to begin. This is the main annual event addressing climate change, bringing together all parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
