Digital, sustainability and health. The Brussels’ weekly agenda in a nutshell

The week of March 24–28 will be marked by the Council meeting in its Environment configuration, the plenary session of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), and the publication of the EU Preparedness Union Strategy by the Commission.

Monday 24 – Thursday 27 March. These will be busy days for Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner for Energy and Housing, with a full schedule of meetings. Notably, he will meet with Agustín Reyna, Director General of the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC), and Malte Lohan, CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce to the EU. Additionally, on Thursday and Friday, the Commissioner will attend the Solar Power Summit 2025 in Brussels, where discussions will focus on key strategies, policies, and market developments driving Europe’s transition to solar energy.

Wednesday 26 March. The European Commission is set to publish the EU Preparedness Union Strategy, while Executive Vice-President Raffaele Fitto will present the Reform Agenda for Cohesion Policy: The Mid-Term Review of 2025.

Wednesday 26 – Thursday 27 March. The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will convene in Brussels for its plenary session. The agenda includes a presentation by Valdis Dombrovskis, Commissioner for Economy, Productivity, Implementation and Simplification, on the Commission’s Work Programme 2025. Moreover, Kim Jørgensen, Director General at the European Investment Bank, will discuss the EESC’s opinion on Defence Funding in the EU, adopted by its ECO section on February 26, 2025.

On Wednesday, EESC President Oliver Röpke will also meet with Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis.

Thursday 27 March. The European Council in its Environment configuration will meet in Brussels to discuss the Clean Industrial Deal, the Commission’s new strategy aimed at decarbonizing Europe’s industrial sector while ensuring high levels of competitiveness and economic sustainability. The agenda also includes a meeting with Inger Andersen, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), to review global environmental policies within the framework of the so-called Global Climate Action and the EU’s “green diplomacy” efforts.
On the same day, UNEP’s Executive Director will also meet with Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen.

Finally, ministers will discuss the environmental impact and potential implications of the recent Vision for Agriculture, published by the Commission on February 19, 2025.
