The main speaker, Henri Hololei, then took the floor.<\/p>\n<p>Bringing together EU and national institution representatives, companies, research and business organisations, trade and consumer associations and other relevant stakeholders, the event offered a forum to take stock of the new\u00a0sustainable and smart mobility strategy, published in December by the Commission as a key component of the European Green Deal, with the aim to lay the foundation for how the EU transport system can achieve its green and digital transformation and become more resilient to future crises. The event focused on the overall rationale of the strategy, as well as on the related legislative initiatives that will guide the Commission\u2019s work for the next four years.<\/p>\n<p>How realistic are the\u00a0ambitious European targets of reducing emissions by 2030 and zero emissions by 2050? Are the objectives of the\u00a0Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy adequate\u00a0to drive the decarbonisation of the transport and mobility system? What other initiatives can be launched to encourage the\u00a0digitisation and sustainability of passenger and freight flows? What are the main economic and regulatory challenges to overcome to fully exploit the\u00a0digital potential in the mobility sector? In what direction should we move to strengthen European strategic autonomy\u00a0and build an integrated supply chain that makes the automotive industry greener and smarter?
