On Tuesday 9 December<\/strong>, the PromethEUs Network<\/strong> convened at I-Com Brussels office to present its latest study titled: “Making the EU\u2019s 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework Work for Southern Europe<\/span><\/em>“.<\/p>\n

Aggelos Tsakanikas<\/strong>, Professor and Director of LIEE and Dar\u00edo Garcia De Viedma<\/strong>, Fellow at Elcano Royal Institute, opened the session by presenting the paper to the audience.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0study<\/a>, structured around four chapters, examinines the\u00a0proposal for the new EU budget<\/strong>. Specifically, it compares the current MFF with the previous one, assessing its structure and achievements. It also explores the European Competitiveness Fund and the financing needs of the digital sector to strengthen Europe\u2019s position globally. Lastly, it assesses the Horizon Europe programme to determine whether available funds are adequate to support R&I policies and deliver on Europe\u2019s digital ambitions.<\/p>\n

Then, the event featured a panel discussion by Armando Melone<\/strong>, Policy Officer Access to finance at DG GROW, MEP Helder Sousa Silva<\/strong> (EPP) and Katinka Clausdatter Wors\u00f8e<\/strong>, Attach\u00e9 for Digitalisation and Telecommunication at Danish Perm. Rep.<\/p>\n

Following, a tour de table with reppresentantives from relavant stakeholder associations shared with the institutional discussants and the network the experience and perspectives from their sectors.<\/p>\n

At the core of the discussion, participants questioned whether the funds envisaged in the new budget proposal would be sufficient to support competitiveness and digital leadership in EU, discussed the new structure of the MFF and explored whether the Southern European countries will be able to deploy these funds effectively.<\/p>\n
