Today, I-Com Brussels hosted a policy breakfast bringing together the most relevant European stakeholders in the digital and tech sector to discuss the Digital Omnibus, its future development and the objectives at the core of the proposal.
To this end, the event featured the participation of Renate Nikolay, Deputy Director-General of DG CONNECT who addressed the proposal in its entirety ranging from the GDPR, the redefinition of the Data Acquis, AI Act and Cybersecurity.
The discussion was opened by a presentation from Alessio Caramitti, I-Com Research fellow, who presented the Institute’s background document for the roundtable which briefly explores in three chapters the state of the art of EU digital legislation, describes the Digital Omnibus proposal and collects perspectives and main reflections advanced since last November publication.
A Q&A session followed, allowing participants, ranging from different sectors, to engage in a constructive exchange and express both concerns and appreciation regarding the proposal, in light of their respective areas of interest.
Participants generally agreed on the need to streamline the EU digital rulebook while preserving a high level of fundamental rights protection and maintaining EU successful and effective legal standards and principles
Thank you everyone for participating!
