Policy Conversation on STILI DI VITA: Stato dell’arte della legislazione europea e prospettive per l’attuale mandato

On June 24, 2025, I-Com Brussels launched a new initiative led by the Health Research Area in Rome, titled “Stili di Vita”. The project will consist of a series of closed-door meetings held in Italian, focusing on topics such as health, lifestyles, and harm reduction. Its goal is to foster dialogue between Italian stakeholders active in Brussels and representatives of the European institutions.

The first event, titled “Stili di vita: stato dell’arte della legislazione europea e prospettive per l’attuale mandato”, featured contributions from MEPs Pietro Fiocchi (ECR), Vice-Chair of the ENVI Committee,  Alessandra Moretti (S&D) e Michele Picaro (ECR), both members of the SANT Committee. Following their remarks, representatives from various stakeholder groups also took the floor, including Cristina Tinelli, Director of International and EU Institutional relations at Confagricoltura, and Luisella Ciani, Director General at European Food Forum.

The discussion was opened by Maria Vittoria Di Sangro, I-Com research fellow, who presented the Institute’s study produced for this session. The latter provides a comprehensive outline of the state-of-play of EU legislation and governance on citizen well-being, prevention and promotion of healthy lifestyles analysing European strategies, plan and financings instruments including the EU4Health, Beating Cancer Plan, Farm to Fork, Horizon Europe. The ultimate purpose of the paper is to bridge the last mandate objectives with the current legislation by assessing the effectiveness and possible weak points emerged during the 2019-2024 period.

Thank you to all participants! I-Com wishes you all a restful summer and looks forward to reconnecting for the next policy conversation which will be held on Tuesday 23 September focusing on nutrition, healthy eating habits and food education!
