Mercoledì 6 settembre, I-Com ha organizzato il convegno “THINKING THE FUTURE OF EUROPEAN INDUSTRY. Digitalization, Industry 4.0 and the role of EU and national policies”. L’evento si è tenuto dalle 18:00 alle 20:00 all’interno del Parlamento Europeo (stanza ASP 3G3) e sono intervenuti la deputata al Parlamento europeo Patrizia TOIA, in qualità di Vice presidente del Commissione ITRE, e il deputato al Parlamento europeo Andreas SCHWAB, in qualità di membro della Commissione IMCO.

In questa occasione, I-Com ha presentato un nuovo studio che indaga le seguenti tematiche: connettività ed industria; punti di forza e livello di preparazione rispetto alle trasformazioni dettate da Industria 4.0 e politiche attuate rispetto alle suddette tematiche.

L’evento ha messo in luce le trasformazioni digitali che stanno progressivamente mutando la competitività all’interno delle imprese, modificandone i processi interni e introducendo nuovi ed innovativi modelli di business.

Lo studio è stato presentato e discusso dagli stakeholder invitati all’evento, come rappresentanti delle industrie e membri della Commissione e del Parlamento Europeo.

On Wednesday, September 6th, I-Com hosted a public conference on “THINKING THE FUTURE OF EUROPEAN INDUSTRY. Digitalization, Industry 4.0 and the role of EU and national policies”. The event took place from 18:00 to 20:00 at the European Parliament, Room ASP 3G3 and it was hosted by MEPs Patrizia TOIA, Vice-Chair of the ITRE Committee and Andreas SCHWAB, IMCO Committee.

For the occasion I-Com presented a new Paper that investigates the context of Connectivity and Industry, the key drivers and the level of readiness for Industry 4.0 and the policies related to it.

The conference aimed at fostering the debate on how the ongoing digital transformation radically are changing the way companies can compete, by not only modifying the existing internal processes but also by allowing the development of completely different and innovative business models.

The Paper was presented and discussed with some of the most relevant stakeholders invited to participate in the discussion, as industry representatives, European Commission officials and ME.

Bio

Stefano is the president and principal policy analyst at I-Com, the Institute for Competitiveness, a think tank based in Rome and Brussels which he founded in 2005. He currently teaches political economy and economic policy at the Roma Tre University, in Rome. Stefano is a graduate of the Coripe Consortium for Research and Continuing Education in Economics (Piemonte, Italy), where he received a Masters Degree in Economics and the George Mason University (Virginia, USA) where he obtained his MA (Economics).

 

Stefano has served in key advisory or expert positions on a number of taskforces or scientific boards, including:

  • Director at the Observatory on Energy Policy of the Einaudi Foundation;
  • Expert Member of the Technical Secretariat for the Protection of Nature in the Italian Ministry of the Environment;
  • Expert Member of the Eurelectric Task Force on Investment;
  • Scientific Director of the La Scossa Association;
  • Board member of the European Foundation EYPROM;
  • Vice President of the Health City Institute.

He has authored numerous publications on economic themes, particularly with regard to policy and regulation of the energy market and infrastructural services and the governance of the institutions, and his opinions and analysis has featured in major Italian newspapers including Il Foglio, il Sole24 Ore, Huffington Post Italia and more. Stefano has also undertaken study and consultancy assignments for Italian and international public institutions, including the Senate of the Republic, the Department for EU policies, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the OECD, leading Italian and foreign companies and non-profit organizations.

Bio

Since April 2015 Stefano Firpo is the Director General for “Industrial Policy, Competitiveness and SMEs” at the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, where he had also been Head of the Technical Secretariat. He designed and implemented the Italian legislation on innovative startups and SMEs and worked, as contributor of the “Destinazione Italia” Report and member of the Finance for Growth group, at the liberalization of corporate bonds and on recent measures to boost investments in R&D and intellectual property. In the past, he worked as an Economist at the European Central Bank and at Intesa Sanpaolo Banking Group as Head of the CEO’s Staff office. He graduated in Political Sciences at the University of Turin, and got a post-graduate specialization in International Economics at the London School of Economics.

Andreas Schwab is a German politician and Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Germany. Born in Pogliano Milanese (Milan), she received her university degree in Political Science at the University of Milan, and her specialization in Strategic Planning at Bocconi University. She began her political career in the Christian Democrats, and then continued in the Italian Popular Party (PPI). She was Regional Councillor in Lombardy region, in charge of coordination for Social Services, Healthcare and Budgetary Policy. In Rome, she was then elected at the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic. She held various institutional positions: Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with responsibility for Human Rights, for Relations with the United Nations, for cultural relations abroad, for Latin America, Asia and Oceania, for immigration and Italians abroad. Heiko Willems (born 30/08/19/1970) is currently working at the Federation of German Industries as a Head of the Department Law, Competition and Consumer Policy.
